A dream retreat designed with shipping containers features an eye-catching balance between industrial, rustic and glamorous, located in Union Pier, Michigan. The project was undertaken by Fredman Design Group, showcasing raw, weathered and finished woods withย ย sleek whites, mixed metals and soft textured elements. The design of this residence is a combination of shipping containers and traditional stick-building methods, which resulted in a luxury hybrid home both inside and out. The design team took on the challenge of incorporating shipping containers to overcome preconceived notions about their use. The result is a unique design that is both luxurious and sustainable.
Throughout the interiors, you will notice peeks of container, a nod to its signature architectural detail. The homeowners found it important to capture the outdoors in their design. The design team met this challenged by harvesting trees from around the property to incorporate throughout the interiors. During the day, this dream retreat is illuminated with natural light through extensive windows that have been thoughtfullyย positioned. LED accents and fascinating hand-crafted light fixtures sprinkled throughout act as art pieces, setting the retreat aglow duringย the evening hours. Being able to flow harmoniouslyย through the open living and kitchen area allows for easy entertaining.
