Woodland chalet imbues rustic elegance in Idaho’s Sun Valley

Wood River Valley Chalet-Miller Architects-01-1 Kindesign

Miller Architects in collaboration with Jennifer Hoey Interior Design imagined this beautiful woodland chalet, located in Wood River Valley, a region just outside of Sun Valley, Idaho. The homeowners, a couple who had recently moved from Minnesota, were looking for an atmosphere that reflected authentic rustic European styling.

Materials of historic hewn stone and stucco were incorporated into the design of this cozy home nestled amongst a stand of aspens. The surrounding property offers various activities to enjoy year-round, with fantastic skiing and hiking opportunities on the nearby mountains.

In the spacious kitchen, custom designed cabinets comprised of white oak with a custom finish creates a lovely rustic-chic aesthetic. The countertops feature soapstone on all except for the second island, which is clad in fir. The backsplash is a soapstone subway tile. A double island allows a space for the chef to chop and cook while the other island is perfect for serving food or washing vegetables in the prep sink. The reclaimed wood beams on the ceilings were locally sourced through Henderson Corporation.
