A home in the Russian Hill neighborhood of San Francisco, California was given a modern update accented by subtle colors and refined textures by Redmond Aldrich Design. When the homeowners purchased this apartment, the interiors were brand new, by they were not a fan of the design. It was a little too minimalist for their tastes, so this is when they decided to hire an interior designer to help them with the task of adding personality into the space. The designers started with a neutral color palette and layered colors through furnishings and artwork and added texture through textiles and area rugs that helps to delineate spaces. An open plan kitchen and dining room helps to compliment one another. The living area is close by, perfect for easy entertaining, which was one of the goals for the design of this home.
The dining room table showcases a custom designed wood table by the design studio, adding warmth and character to the space, while Saarinen chairs add a burst of color to the space.
A sophisticated kitchen features herringbone patterned flooring comprised of walnut and stainless steel cabinetry topped with granite countertops in a shade of gray. The backsplash is travertine tiling, keeping the space very neutral, yet elegant.
A comfortable living room/library is the homeowner’s favorite room in the house. It features a soft color palette of warm woods, grays and and sunlit yellows. A library ladder allows access to the books that are on the higher stainless steel shelves.
What We Love: Its a toss up between the bright and airy living room/library… libraries are awesome aren’t they? — and the master bathroom with it’s beautiful onyx wall, what a showpiece! This is a very comfortable home, love that it is modern but doesn’t feel quite modern with the subtle punches of color, artwork and accessories. What are your thoughts, too modern for your tastes or do you like what the designers have done?
A sitting area is just past the living room makes for a perfect little reading nook.
A simple color palette in the master bedroom promotes rest and relaxation… and offers stunning views of the San Francisco Bay.
The master bathroom features a beautiful feature wall of onyx, which was applied with a bookmatching technique. A freestanding bathtub set on a slab of wood adds to the minimalism of this space, while Lagos Azul limestone flooring completes the aesthetic.
