This stunningย transitional style 1950sย Hollywood Hills ranch house,ย renovated byย Janette Mallory Interior Design, featuresย breathtaking views over Los Angeles, California. Nestled hillside in theย Mount Olympus neighborhood, this stylish ranch house was in need of a major update. The home had a great layout,ย so the 4,000 square foot (371 square meters) four bedroom, four bathroomย floor planย was left just the way it was. The homeowners wanted the design aesthetic to be contemporary and rustic. Their vision was in keeping with the original rustic styling of this classic ranch home, yet with a twist of midcentury. The result was a transitional design scheme that showcases the homeowner’s collection of art and decor. A sunken down living room was preserved, a common detail that is found in old ranch style homes. This space is accessed viaย a two stair step down that opens up to a mix of rustic, midcentury, classic and colonial style furnishings. The flooring throughout the interiors is comprised of reclaimed walnut.
The living room has been separated from the dining and kitchen area by a pony wall (half wall), which was originally closed off. Now it allows light to penetrate back into the spaces, enable views through the windows and a nice flow between the spaces.
A classic ranch house feature, the original wood-paneled ceiling and exposed rafters in the family room were preserved by sandblasting and refinishing them.
The wet bar in the family room was also preserved, a classic midcentury feature. The space was updated with a new limestone countertop and fresh accessories. Since the homeowners love toย entertain, this was a perfect feature to maintain and enjoy for years to come.
The soaking tub is in the perfect spot to soak in the expansive downtown Los Angeles city views.
