This exquisite rustic French farmhouse was designed by Fergus Garber Architects, located in Woodside, a town in San Mateo County, California. This custom estate encompasses a 4,872 square foot main house, a pool house, 393 square foot art studio, a 1,124 square foot detached garage, and a 968 square foot guest house.
With an exterior facade of stone and stucco, this dwelling is reminiscent of rustic stone homes from the south of France. The residence provides sweeping views over the pool and yard on one side and inward to an enclosed courtyard on the other. Modern technology is hidden amongst the historic detailing, as the whole house can be controlled by iPad’s embedded in the walls or remotely on a phone.

For the backstory of this project, he wanted a contemporary home and she wanted a rustic French Farmhouse. This house leans more towards the latter, yet the detailing and programming leans subtly towards the former. Instead of dividing this home into a formal living/dining/kitchen zones, the family gathers in a more modern and casual way.
In a single room where their life is shared with each other and their friends. Each have their own offices and dressing areas. The family room has been located on the upper level instead of traditionally adjacent to the kitchen. This is where homework is done, spending quality time with their parents instead of their own separate rooms.
What We Love: This rustic French farmhouse offers an absolutely stunning exterior facade with a romantic courtyard design and drool-worthy backyard. Every detail in this home is exquisite, from the stone and stucco facade complimented by blue shutters to the vines growing up the walls. Inside, contemporary living spaces are mixed with rustic accents for inviting warmth. A dreamy owner’s suite features a private patio that would offer a tranquil spot to relax.
