The clients for this beautiful home in Sonoma, California originally approached the San Francisco based architecture firm SDA for a kitchen remodel and master bedroom addition. During the design process they decided what they really wanted was a contemporary home that would take full advantage of the beautiful site in the middle of a well-known St. Helena winery’s vineyard. The new home uses most of the original home’s footprint and adds a master suite and a separate pool house.
The design takes advantage of the sweeping vineyard and ridgeline views and transforms a dated ranch style house into a contemporary weekend retreat. The design connects the interior spaces directly to rooms created in the landscape through the use of two large doors on axis with the living room, dining room, and pool. The layout allows for effortless transition between inside and outside, perfect for summer living and entertaining.
