This serene beach house, crafted by Wettling Architects, provides an idyllic family vacation retreat nestled on Shelter Island, an island town in Suffolk County, New York. This seaside property is nestled on the far eastern edge of Shelter Island, across the bay from the Mashomack Nature Preserve, offering a relaxing escape from the bustle of New York City.
“Design harmonizes with the serenity of the natural space through the use of low sweeping roof lines, soft natural materials, and ethereal colors,” states the architects. The home was designed to maximize the views of the water from just about every room. Interior and exterior living spaces were designed to accommodate family living and entertaining.
The interior palette is comprised of soft organic materials of stone, wood beams, and wooden flooring mixed with beautiful furnishings. The residence opens in the direction of the water to provide the inhabitants with sensational seaside views from every room. The residents are an active young family who enjoys entertaining frequent guests, so the interiors needed to be functional and withstand wear and tear. Both interior and exterior spaces are very bright, spacious, inviting, cozy, and super beach-friendly.
This cozy living room is very bright with all of the windows, offering slip-covered sofas for easy cleaning and a cozy seating arrangement for great conversation. Furnishings are centrally situated around a stunning stone fireplace with a wood-beamed mantel, grounded by a textured area rug that separates the space from the kitchen and living areas.
