Constructed in the 1980s, this home has undergone a contemporary renovation by Furman + Keil Architects, situated on a narrow peninsula along scenic Lake Austin, Texas. The architects worked within the constraints of the existing 5,890-square-foot footprint, transforming the home from a series of walled rooms into an open-plan layout.
The entry courtyard was redesigned, allowing guests to move deeper into the property and improving the transition at the entrance. New panoramic windows were integrated into the structure, allowing the homeowners to maximize their views of the natural surroundings.

Expansive sliding doors connect the living room with a newly constructed, screened-in porch, engaging views of the lake beyond. Overcoming the challenges of the property as well as the geometries of the existing floor plan led to an unexpected design that highlights the stunning Lake Austin landscape.
What We Love: The redesign of this Lake Austin property helps to dramatically open this house to the surrounding lake. The transformation of this home went from clunky and cluttered to contemporary and clean-lined, creating a breathtaking living environment. A beautiful, open-plan space where all interior walls have been removed from the main living areas demonstrates clever configuration by the architects. Spaces have been discretely delineated from one another through a series of free-standing cabinets that do not touch the ceiling. This helps keep the interiors feeling light and airy.
