Built in 1966 by Northwest architect Ralph Anderson for a couple of art collectors, this West Seattle home has always had something going for it. A cliffside position above Puget Sound, 3,500 square feet of thoughtfully arranged space, and an elevated, treehouse-like quality that makes it feel removed from the world below. What it needed was a fresh eye.
Owner and architect Steve Hoedemaker of Hoedemaker Pfeiffer provided exactly that, updating the lighting, refreshing the finishes, repainting throughout, and reworking the landscape. A high-impact update that stopped well short of erasing what made the home special in the first place. It also has a resort-like feel with its incredible footprint extended onto an additional lot that features four structures, a sparkling swimming pool, and colorful gardens.

A midcentury masterpiece above Puget Sound

High-impact renovation on a low budget

Working with landscape architect Randy Allworth and Hoedemaker Pfeiffer’s own interiors team, the scope of this project entailed: refreshed finishes, updating lighting, making a few interior and exterior modifications, painting everything, refreshing the landscape, and working with new and existing furniture for a high-impact, low-budget update to this classic midcentury home.

What We Love About This Home
This midcentury home is an incredible showcase of stylish furnishings and an array of art and collectibles. The home’s original character was beautifully preserved, while interior spaces were refreshed to create an inviting place to live and entertain. A strong indoor-outdoor connection has been established thanks to large windows and an expansive deck overlooking the Puget Sound.
