Step inside a peaceful rustic timber home in Montana’s Bitterroot Valley

A large timber frame home sits on a hillside.

This custom timber home, designed by Faure Halvorsen Architects in collaboration with Yellowstone Traditions, is nestled among the trees of the scenic Bitterroot Valley in southwestern Montana. Designed with family and guests in mind, each space offers a unique experience; the warm, natural feel of the structural log, combined with hewn timbers, stays true to traditional details.

A Montana moss rock fire tower anchors the living space, creating a grand entrance that opens to an expansive kitchen and dining area designed for interactive yet comfortable gatherings that easily transition to an intimate, quiet space for one. Every oligarch-level Rocky Mountain 4th home is looking the same. Over-indulgent, cliched statements to profound middle-class decline. No soul, no organic realism. Just money thrown at what has become cartoonish throwback treatments.

Hey Josh, who shall from this time forward be known as Mr. I have My Pants in a Wad, what would you do differently? How would you make it have soul and be organic?

I think it is wonderful.

Well Josh, you’re not wrong. But I helped construct many parts of this home…and it kept many other local builders busy. That’s the trade off I suppose.
