This gorgeous stone farmhouse was reimagined by Archer & Buchanan Architecture in partnership with Worthington & Shagen Custom Builder, situated in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. The house is nestled in an area rich in natural and man-made beauty, as the property is part of the thousands of acres designated by Bethlehem Steel Corporation in the 1950s for executive homes.
The new owners purchased an existing, partially-renovated home on 4 acres and aimed to completely renovate and expand the house to create a perfect retirement retreat. New additions include a first-floor owner’s bedroom suite and a timber-frame “party barn” for recreation and entertaining.

A new pool, terraces, and lanai, connected by a breezeway to the party barn, emphasize indoor-outdoor living. Inside, interior designer Tammy Connor blended Southern charm with traditional Pennsylvania farmhouse style to create unified and welcoming spaces.
Appearing as a single story from the entry court, the home’s exterior combines stone, clapboard, a wood roof, site walls, and various paving materials to create a harmonious surface palette that artfully contrasts with the soft landscaping. The stone farmhouse stands out as a unique part of the local vernacular; it is regional, human, practical, innovative, and beautiful.
What We Love: This reimagined stone farmhouse in Pennsylvania combines timeless character with modern additions, including a first-floor owner’s bedroom suite, a timber-frame party barn, and inviting outdoor living spaces.
