2. Cedar Pergola with Lattice Trellis Privacy Panels

A cedar pergola with built-in lattice trellis panels is one of the most elegant and hardworking privacy solutions for a backyard patio. The lattice panels define the space and block sightlines while still allowing light and air to filter through, and the cedar construction weathers beautifully over time to a natural silver-gray. For a truly stunning result, train climbing roses, jasmine, or wisteria up the panels and let them fill in over the seasons. (via Knot Just Decks)
3. Row of Privacy Trees Along a Back Fence

A row of tall trees planted along a fence line is one of the most effective natural privacy solutions available. In this Gunter, Texas backyard, large Eagleston Holly trees create a dense evergreen screen that blocks sightlines year-round, while flower beds planted around the base add extra visual interest. Fast-growing and drought-tolerant, Eagleston Holly is a particularly smart choice for USDA Hardiness Zones 7–9. (via Treeland Nursery)

Horizontal slat screens have become one of the most popular privacy screen styles in recent years, and for good reason. 5. Privacy Screens That Define a Narrow Pathway

In a small backyard, even a narrow side path can become a standout feature with the right design. Paired with simple hardscaping like stone or gravel, this idea turns a cramped passage into an attractive, functional element of a compact outdoor layout. (via Excalibur Metal Design)
6. Stylish Wood Privacy Screen with Planters

The redwood lattice panels are a very simple site-built panel; use a 4′ x 8′ lattice and space the 4×4 posts so the lattice fits between them, then secure the lattice with 2x2s or 1x2s. The posts are anchored in concrete – let them set up before installing the lattice. Using a square lattice instead of the angled one makes them more elegant and contemporary. The lattice is available through any well-stocked lumber yard and some garden centers.
For the plants, Hardenbergia violacea, Campsis radicans, and Gelsemium sempervirens on the trellis panels. The Campsis is on the first panel, followed by the Hardenbergia and then the Gelsemium. The planters are zinc planters. Drip tubing was run up into all of the planters. Ideally, planter irrigation should have its own valve, as it can dry out sooner than plants in the ground, especially in hot climates.
💡 Pro Tip: Water planters with a “weeping” style soaker hose as the emitter (or laser) style gets clogged, and then waters unevenly. Create a loop of the soaker hose and attach it to the supply line (usually 1/4″ tubing) with an emitter to regulate the flow. So the water does not leak out of the bottom of the pot during runtime, size the emitter to water as much as possible while the valve is running without overflowing. If the run time is 1/2 hr. and you want to provide 1/2 gal. of water, use a 1 gal. emitter. (via Skyline Design Studio)
