Silk Cavassa Marchetti designed this contemporary home for a family of five seeking a spacious, light-filled, and serene environment, set on a sloping lot along the shores of Lake Washington. This young family was relocating from California, wishing to create new roots in the Seattle area.
The design balances modern minimalism with the warmth and comfort of traditional elements, resulting in a home that is at once clean, inviting, and thoughtfully composed. The house is organized to prioritize views and natural light, with primary family gathering spaces oriented toward the lake. Continue below to see more of this impressive home tour…

Architecturally, the home features gable roofs, clean lines, and contemporary interpretations of traditional forms. Expansive windows, designed with a steel-like aesthetic, frame views and flood the interiors with natural light, enhancing the bright, airy character of the spaces.

This 6,500-square-foot home is both minimal and cozy, modern yet warm, designed for casual family living while celebrating its remarkable lakeside setting.

The brief called for emphasizing minimal, clean design combined with enough traditional details to avoid feeling sterile. The designers were tasked with selecting finishes and fixtures for the residence. Warm, pale oak in several shades of sand and smoke makes up the flooring, cabinetry, and running millwork.

Softly veined stones and handmade tile are employed throughout for their quietly luxurious quality. Lighting was selected to punctuate the spaces and lend a sense of glamour. Furnishings tend toward muted yet sculptural forms, inviting inhabitants to relax and linger, with special attention to interesting yet subdued color combinations.

Walls and trim are kept light to maximize the Pacific Northwest sunshine, even during winter months, while warm wood tones in cabinetry and trim provide a tactile balance to the white interiors.

What We Love About This Home
We love how this Lake Washington home masterfully balances modern minimalism with a warm, inviting sense of home, creating a serene retreat for family living. Its thoughtful plan orients living spaces toward expansive lake views and natural light, while clean lines, gabled forms, and a subtle blend of traditional elements give the architecture timeless appeal. The result is a bright, airy, and beautifully composed lakeside residence that feels both relaxed and refined.
