Trickle Creek Designer Homes is responsible for the design of this visually striking, Japanese-inspired home located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. A masterclass in intentional design, the Varsity residence balances minimalism with warmth, inspired by Japanese architecture. Natural materials, clean lines, and innovative construction define every detail. A 26-foot-high peak marks the entrance, leading to a curved staircase that sets the tone for a home that is both restrained and expressive.
Exposed wooden beams, a sculpted concrete fireplace, and a symmetrical great room create a refined yet inviting atmosphere. In the kitchen, an 18-foot island, a metal-clad hood fan, and inset Bocci plugs contribute to a sleek aesthetic. Thoughtful design frames outdoor views, reinforcing the home’s connection to nature. When designing this home, the owners said they desired a grand entrance. The staircase had to do some heavy lifting—both structurally and visually. From initial concept to final installation, this stairwell was a true collaboration among design, architecture, and construction. A curved plaster form that mirrors the vaulted ceilings, a light fixture scaled to fill the volume, and precise execution by every trade on site.
