Design-build studio Black Rabbit has beautifully renovated this 1963 midcentury modern home that embraces eco-friendly design features in the quiet Sherwood Oaks neighborhood of Austin, Texas. The 2,294-square-foot, four-bedroom, three-bathroom dwelling harmoniously blends indoor and outdoor living spaces to enhance its wooded surroundings.
Concealed from the street by a Texas limestone privacy wall, the inviting front courtyard visually connects to the backyard deck, swimming pool, and guest house through frameless windows and expansive pocket sliding glass doors. The sun-filled courtyard features passive solar heating, which absorbs sunlight into the homeโs materials and releases warmth when the sun sets, providing natural and efficient temperature control.
