This gorgeous prairie-style mountain home was designed by Samsel Architects, located in The Cliffs at Walnut Cove in Arden, North Carolina. When designing this home, the architects were inspired by the principles of prairie-style homes and translated this style to fit into the context of mountain living. They focused on simple materials, openness, strong lines, and an abundance of natural light.
The dwelling is perched on a natural knoll, elevated to maximize the panoramic mountain vistas. It was also important to preserve as much of the tree canopy as possible, maintaining the home’s connection with its site.

This dwelling’s four bedrooms and lofty entertaining spaces were required to fit into 4,400 square feet of living space. This resulted in an efficiently configured floor plan that lives larger than its square footage suggests.
The living room opens up to the spacious eat-in kitchen, and the kitchen leads outside to a generous screened-in porch and outdoor terrace.
This fabulous screened porch has its own cooking and dining area, along with a cozy fireplace that provides year-round enjoyment.
