This modern coastal home was designed by Kevin Browne Architecture, located on a serene wooded oceanfront property in Freeport, a town in Cumberland County, Maine. The site came with several positive qualities yet also presented some challenges with unique constraints,
Restrictions included lot lines, the ocean, and a stream that intersects the property, the buildable area for this project was incredibly limited. Nevertheless, the architects were able to design the form of the house to fit within these boundaries. Along with the main residence, this project included a pool house and a private bridge that provides a connection over the stream to the main house and the ocean.

Fusing traditional and modern styles was a major objective throughout the design process of this home. The house is composed of two converging gable forms that intersect at a square glass entryway.
Tall walls of glass offer a sense of connection to the outside environment as well as providing dynamic views of the ocean and neighboring islands.
A floating guest suite sits on a cantilever over the carport and provides a view of the bridge and pool house. A mix of traditional materials and natural colors helps to complement the wooded surroundings.

Echoing the crisscrossing gables of the main house, the shape of the pool house ties in beautifully. This auxiliary structure not only provides access to the swimming pool, but an enclosed garage, a woodshop, and a second floor with recreational space and sleeping quarters. The reiteration of materials and certain design elements provide harmony between the main house, the bridge, and the pool house.
