This midcentury ranch home was reimagined by Penny Black Interiors in collaboration with Look Construction, located in the West Hills neighborhood of Portland, Oregon. The architecture of this dwelling exudes modernism’s core values. For the interior, the designer focused on areas that didn’t maximize the architectural beauty.
The homeowners are a family of three, along with a Great Dane, who wished to aesthetically improve what was existing in their home while updating the kitchen along with the Jack and Jill bathrooms. They also desired some unique storage solutions and a general revamping of their house, which was originally built in 1954. Continue below to see the “before” images…
The entry was completely transformed to provide a “wow” factor for all to enjoy when stepping foot into the home. A large pivot door was used to replace the original dated solid wood door and sidelight.
What We Love: A dilapidated midcentury ranch home was reimagined to provide a family in Oregon with bright and airy living spaces and improved functionality. The new front entry will be sure to impress visitors with the beautiful pivoting door. We are especially loving the living room with the warmth of the wood and expansive glazing, flooding the space with natural light.

The kitchen underwent a complete overhaul by reconfiguring the key elements along with concrete flooring, a new stove, hood, bar, countertop, and a new lighting plan. New open cabinetry was designed and built to allow for more light in what was originally a dark spot.
