SMPL Design Studio is responsible for the renovation of this stunning side split house, located in the Roseland community of Burlington, Ontario, Canada. Side split homes are the most common type of split-level houses. This dwelling encompasses 1,668 square feet of living space, with four bedrooms and three-and-a-half bathrooms.
The homeowner requested the architects to modernize yet preserve the wood-burning feature of the original fireplaces by re-cladding them with custom handcrafted millwork and quartz. The millwork is from a Toronto-based company and is consistent throughout this light and airy residence.

In keeping with the streamlined aesthetic of the interior, the architects added ACM cladding (aluminium composite panels) in the entry feature to the front door. An architectural fold neatly wraps the garage door and frames a wooden gate that leads to the backyard space of the property.
Without adding a single square foot to this 50+ year old structure, the architects were able to breathe new life into this home for a new family to enjoy for many years to come.
What We Love: This incredible side split house offers a complete refresh, boasting a bright and airy new floorplan for family living. We are loving the crisp, clean palette and simple design aesthetic. Large windows help to frame views of the leafy surroundings while drenching the interiors with light. This older home has undergone an overhaul of the interior and exterior spaces that has been completely modernized without having to tear down. We love it!
