Inside an idyllic New England home with a modern coastal vibe

Lucy Gorham Residential Design is responsible for the design of this beachside home with a modern coastal vibe, located in Seabrook Beach, New Hampshire. This newly constructed home for a blended family of six presented a challenge to the designers. They worked with the homeowners to develop an identity for the interior that is not your typical New England coastal. Highlights of this project include board and baton elements, a bold blue stunning shiplap kitchen, and a creative X-stair design.

Nestled on a narrow slice of land facing the ocean, dunes beyond the property’s border limit the views from the ground and second levels. To accommodate for this, the interior layout features a reverse-living layout to maximize views. The open-plan kitchen, living, and dining areas are located on the upper level. There is an elevator that can be used for lugging groceries upstairs.

What We Love: This fabulous home offers a modern, crisp and clean palette designed for a casual beachside lifestyle. A relaxed, modern coastal vibe can be felt throughout, while views are maximized from the main living spaces. The top-down layout helps to emphasize these amazing views while creating a practical design for family living.

Tell Us: Do you like the layout of the main living spaces on the upper level and private spaces on the lower level? Let us know why or why not in the Comments below!

There is also shiplap on the kitchen and living area ceilings as well as the mudroom walls. The islandโ€™s heavy marble top is offset by translucent pendants and a pillowed-tile backsplash. To lighten this space, the designer left out upper cabinets, opting for open shelves. Vaulted ceilings add an airiness to this space.

The blue in the kitchen, mud room and on the stair rail is garish. Not a fan. The premise of the design was to be antithetical to typical seaside retreat. Looks like a cartoon replica …
