The ultimate beach house design, this light-filled pad was designed byย Echelon Interiors and built byย Echelon Custom Homes, located in Dewey Beach, Delaware. This home was styled to feel like you are living the vacation lifestyle, everyday. With bright and airy interiors and a seaside-inpired palette, this home is drool-worthy. Highlights includes a spacious kitchen and plenty of fantastic entertaining spaces indoors and out. Not to mention lots of guest rooms… and the bunk beds are adorable!
Since the home was constructed in a small beach town, the builders had several factors to consider when designing this home. The home would have to fit a narrow footprint, the maximum height allowance was 42 feet and all usable space had to be above the floodplain. The beach house has three levels, each were designed to be eight feel tall in order to stay within the height requirements.
The homeowners were wishing for soaring ceilings and maximizing views through windows in the living, kitchen and dining areas. This made an eight foot ceiling throughout the interiors not possible. The solution: a split level beach house design. “The home was designed around the 16 foot ceilings of the main living, kitchen and dining areas. From there, the remaining space was split into half levels for guest rooms, bunk rooms, the master suite, outdoor decks and a loft with secondary master suite,” states the builders.
The main level consists of a spacious kitchen with two expansive islands, a wet bar for entertaining and a dining nook with large windows soaking in both light and views. Just off the kitchen is an intimate, yet sophisticated lounge area. This main living space features exquisite details in theย trim work, built-ins and exposed beamsโcreating a luxurious beach house aesthetic. A half level up is a loft space with a powder bath and spacious guest en-suite, which can be closed off from the main level for privacy.
What We Love: This ultimate beach house design features chic, nautical-inspired accents throughout. With amazing entertaining spaces and a heavenly kitchen, there is so much to love. But back to the kitchen, we love the blue painted dual islands, one for bar seating and one for prep. With an open layout to the living room, this is surely the heart of the home. The expansive sliding glass doors in the living area helps to merge the indoors with the outdoors.

Above: “Each of the floors are joined on the exterior by a spiralling staircase that provides access to the outdoor courtyard. Designers had to raise the level of the courtyard to be in line with the main level of the home and to adhere to the flood limitations. The unique and custom shape of the outdoor pool allowed space for all the elements that the homeowner wished for. This small outdoor oasis has a lot packed in from the pool and hot tub combination, to the poolside bar and lounge area, to the outdoor fireplace and grilling space”โ as stated by the builder.
