The homeowner’s of this farmhouse inย Redding, Connecticut commissioned interior designer studioย At Home Designย to completely renovate their home. The project required the design team to leave the existing footprintย intact. Tearing down walls and reconfiguringย spaces to meet the client’s lifestyle needs. The homeowner’s had a vision of the design direction they wanted for their home. They were looking to mixย material elements that were both old and new that would reflect a more “rough-luxe” aesthetic. From the exterior, the presentation of the home is clean and classic lines. The farmhouse is surrounded by well-manicured gardens and mature growth trees. Spread out over three levels, this family home is warm and inviting from the front door. Above: A spacious front entry features a sunny window to help illuminate the space. A large velvety-textured round ottoman offers a spot to have a seat to take off your shoes. A console table provides a spot for decorative items and to place your keys. A chartreuse hued area rugs helps to ground the space. Rich dark wood flooring infuses warmth into the farmhouse.
Above:ย Natural light prevails in the living room thanks toย walls of glass that looksย out to the back patio. French doors on either side of the walls gives homeowner’sย the opportunity to bring fresh breezes inside.
Above: In the dining room, an expansive walnut dining table seats eight guests comfortably. Decorating the table is a natural element of moss balls set in copper trays. A bromeliad plant is centered in the middle, bringingย in a fresh element to the space. The table is accented by a mix of brown and cream chairs for visual interest. A burst of color has been injected into this space through the color over dye area rug, which helps to ground the space. Brining ambiance to the space are lantern pendant lights, sourced from Holly Hunt Studio.
Above: The kitchen features a gorgeous modern-rustic aesthetic. Highlights includesย natural stone plankย floors, with a vibrant floor runner that picks up from the colors in the area rug in the dining room. Notice the beautiful antique barn wood ceiling and the track lighting from Tech Lighting called “Kableย Lite”.
Above: The cabinets are designed by Neff Kitchens, finished in a custom gray stain. The upper cabinets feature frosted glass inserts. Long horizontal drawer pulls were sourced from Atlas Hardware. The countertops are stained concrete, while the backsplash is a mosaic tile.
What We Love: This Connecticut farmhouse has rough-luxe written all over it! Everywhere you look you will find modern materials with rustic nuances strewn into the mix. We love the use of reclaimed wood in the ceilings and in areas such as the powder room countertop. Wood infuses warmth into this home, making it more inviting and relaxing. The walls of windows invite light and nature inside. Plenty of amazing details throughout!

Above: This powder room is simply stunning! Modern materials mixed with a hint of rustic makes a visual eye pleaser. Highlights includes a custom designed countertop comprised of reclaimed wood. The vessel sink was sourced from Duravit. The vanity backsplash and the flooring is comprised of natural rick rock that’s been sliced. The beautiful pendant light fixture creating a warm ambiance in this space was sourced from LBL Lighting.
Above: A spacious living and entertaining area is the perfect spot for family gathering to enjoy conversation or watching movies and sporting events. Sliding steel doors on a track system closes this space off from the kitchen and dining spaces. A pitched ceiling with exposed wood trusses adds to the farmhouse aesthetic. Suspended from the ceiling is the Random Light by Moooi. What is most striking about this space is the plush, bold red sofa… love it!

Above: The master bedroom retreat has several notable highlights, beginning with the French doors that provides access to the outdoor living spaces. The bed has a piece of wall art that acts as a headboard. Rich wood flooring is covered by small fluffy area rugs on either side of the bed for comfort. As an accent, a large fingerprint area rug of cream and brown picks up the colors from the bed linens. A pitched ceiling is complimented by wood beams.
Above: This minimal bathroom is what dreams are made of! Love the integrated fireplace and dual vanities. The fireplace surround was clad in a natural stone in a charcoal gray hue. The backsplash is a glass tile. Granite countertops feature vessel sinks from Duravit.
Above: A girl’s bedroom features a color palette of blues and greens with painted white furnishings. A canopy bed completes the look.
Above: A children’s bathroom features a mosaic sea glass tile on the backsplash above the vanity. The sea glass is also wrapped in a horizontal band between the white subway tiles in the shower/tub surround. The pebble flooring adds to the spa-like aesthetic. White cabinetry is finished with adorable flower petal drawer pulls.
