This Colonial-style country home has undergone a complete renovation and addition by Crisp Architects, situated in Litchfield County, Connecticut. This transformation has created a family-friendly home that is more livable, bright, and modern. The updated spaces now seamlessly blend classic charm with contemporary comfort.
Before the renovation, the house lacked a designated mudroom when entering from the garage. The owners desired a spacious entryway that allowed easy access from both the outdoors and the garage, while also offering ample storage and large windows overlooking the backyard gardens. This renovation also created an opportunity to relocate the laundry from the basement to a more central, bright, and airy location. What We Love: This country home renovation provides warm and inviting living spaces that are functional and efficient for family living. From exterior to interior, the architect did a fabulous job of transforming this dwelling into a wonderful place to call home. We especially love the new mudroom design, with its attractive black-and-white color palette and abundance of storage options for an active family.

Above: The mudroom offers 250 square feet of space with plenty of functionality with storage cabinets. A washer/dryer is concealed behind cabinet doors when not in use. Designer tip: Enclosed storage cabinets, retractable pocket doors, and a fold-down laundry drying rack ensure the space functions smoothly while maintaining a tidy appearance when not in use.
Special Features: A continuous honed Carrara marble countertop elegantly conceals the under-counter washer and dryer, with slide-away pocket doors for complete appliance concealment when not in use. The Waterworks Fireclay farmhouse apron sink introduces a traditional touch to the custom Shaker-style cabinetry, serving as a practical washbasin for the mudroom and laundry. On the floor is a checkerboard pattern, 12-by-12-inch honed Gioia Venatino, and Dark Bardiglio marble tiles by Studium. Additionally, a fold-away drying rack for delicate laundry enhances functionality while maintaining a clean aesthetic.
