Geometrium Studio has realized Private Jet Villa, the first villa in the luxury segment in the world crafted within the genuine fuselage of a Boeing 737, perched 150 meters above sea level on top of the Nyang Nyang Beach Cliff in Bali, Indonesia. The project was designed and materialized by the Geometrium Studio team.
The transformation of an aircraft into a residential space is in itself an innovative and exclusive idea. There are only a few similar projects in the world, and Private Jet Villa stands as the first of its kind in the luxury segment. Be sure to continue below to see the video on the making of this incredible cliffside pad!
With an area of around 100 square meters, the villa comprises a kitchen-living room, two bedrooms, a terrace on the aircraft’s wing, as well as a pool, a bonfire area, and a reception area within the villa’s premises.
Private Jet Villa was designed not only to cater to guests’ needs for luxurious accommodation but also to offer interactive and unique recreational opportunities. The team aimed to create a space that is not only inherently interesting but also intriguing to explore. In Private Jet Villa, the goal was to evoke a Disneyland effect, an attraction for adults, meant to evoke vivid emotions in guests and create memorable moments.
What makes Private Jet Villa an attraction? Firstly, it’s the uniqueness of the concept itself – residing in a Boeing 737 aircraft at a height of 150 meters above sea level. Guests at the villa can feel like true owners of a private jet that has landed on the picturesque shore of the Indian Ocean.
Secondly, the “attraction factor” of Private Jet Villa is manifested through interactive zones and elements within the villa. The aircraft doors can be opened to access a relaxation area resembling a taut net seemingly located over a cliff. Guests can arrive at the villa by helicopter, with a helicopter landing pad situated at the reception area.
The third aspect that makes Private Jet Villa an attraction is the abundance of photo opportunities. The project team has created numerous interesting and aesthetically appealing backgrounds for photos: a bathroom in the pilot’s cabin with daytime views of the Indian Ocean and nighttime views of Bali’s starry sky, the terrace on the aircraft’s wing providing a sensation of a real flight in the skies, and a cantilevered pool with a transparent wall extending beyond the cliff’s edge.
Villa guests can discover angles for their photos and videos, create content, and share them on social media, thus generating unforgettable visual memories to be shared online.
Nevertheless, the project team aimed to strike a balance between aesthetic solutions and space functionality. Every design element, from finishes to engineering equipment, was selected and developed to ensure not only beauty but also practicality of use.
With such increased attention to the project, it was very important for us to create a design that would be relevant for many years and would be outside of trends.
The aircraft space is narrow, elongated, and confined. Despite this, the project team managed to create a villa that, despite being located in the limited space of an aircraft, does not feel cramped.
To visually expand the aircraft space, light, milky tones were used in the interior, combined with textures of natural wood, concrete, travertine, and golden accents.
Mirrors were also used in the design to visually enlarge the space. Various rooms in the villa feature inserts of relief glass, allowing natural light to penetrate deeper into the rooms and visually connect different spaces.
Moreover, to visually unify different spaces in various rooms, the same natural stone was used – on the countertops and kitchen island, in the bathroom podium at the aircraft’s nose, and in the sinks.
The design aesthetic is oriented towards using rounded shapes, echoing the rounded shape of the aircraft fuselage: the bathroom, furniture, interior elements, and landscape design all incorporate circular forms.
We used noble materials in the concept – travertine, brass, and wood, and thought through various little details and specifications that were easy to use.
Since the aircraft lacks flat surfaces due to its rounded fuselage, standard furniture, and finishing elements could not be used in the project, so everything was custom-made. Additionally, it was necessary to consider the limited space inside the aircraft, the low ceilings, and the material it is made of – metal, which quickly heats up.
Hidden solutions for conditioning were devised: a ducted ventilation and conditioning system. Engineering equipment, including the conditioning system, electricals, and water supply, was housed in the cargo compartment.
In addition to rebuilding the Boeing itself, we designed the landscaping of the area. Including a patio area, swimming pool, and a building for the villa’s staff, which will house the reception staff, a swimming pool, and a helipad. Because the area of the site is limited – they decided to place the helipad on the roof of the building for staff, the building itself turned out to be bionic in shape and architecturally fit into the general appearance of the site.
To separate the private part of the villa from the road, a fencing system was designed, and arranged in a checkerboard pattern to conceal the aircraft from view while keeping the space open and not closing it off with solid fences. A concrete fence was erected to isolate it from the neighboring plot, with plants planted alongside, intended to eventually become a living hedge.
An interesting feature of this project: at the start of the project development, the team did not have a measurement plan, because the aircraft was not physically on site yet. To reduce design time, we had to buy the Boeing layout on the Internet and design it according to the “approximate” plan. We understood that this was a big risk because most likely, the actual dimensions will vary, but we were not intimidated by any possible future adjustments or the complexity of this task.
The concept of the Private Jet Villa goes beyond just accommodation. Thanks to the design made by Geometrium Studio it offers a unique and vibrant experience, where guests can enjoy luxury, comfort, and exclusivity. It serves as both a functional living space and a showcase of innovative design and engineering.
What We Love: This Boeing 737 luxury villa in Bali provides a unique, one-of-a-kind living experience for its inhabitants and their guests. Perched above the ocean, there are so many opportunities to soak in the views — from the hatches of the plane to the terrace on the wing and the swimming pool with its transparent glass. We also love how the architects expanded the windows in the cockpit to maximize ocean views from the jacuzzi on the podium. We think this home would be an amazing place to spend the night!
