This inviting family retreat was designed by TSB Architecture together with Sean Anderson Design, nestled along Lake Martin, Alabama. The home was built on family-owned property that has cherished memories dating back to the homeowner’s grandfather. From the exterior facade, locally sourced stones and wood beams provide an attractive aesthetic mixed with the cedar shake roof.
The design of this dwelling was inspired by WPA National Park buildings that were constructed around the same time as this large man-made was formed. Throughout this residence, the project team focused on selecting timeless materials and thoughtful design which set the tone for this cozy cabin.

What We Love: This Lake Martin retreat provides a family with a warm and inviting home nestled along a picturesque lake. Expansive windows help to frame breathtaking views of the lake while bathing the living spaces with natural light. The house was designed to feel intimate for just two or spacious enough to host extended family members comfortably. Overall, we are loving every element in this home, especially the beautiful living room with its stone-clad fireplace.

Above: The twenty-foot high, floor-to-ceiling stone-clad fireplace. The mantel is a quartz- and mica-flecked stone sourced from the lake.
Above: The white oak walls, floors, and ceiling are stained in a matte, coffee brown, adding an inviting warmth to the interiors.
Above: This dining banquette was custom designed, featuring a blue wool upholstered banquette and a marble-topped pedestal table.
Above: In the kitchen, the designer opted for recessed lights instead of pendants to preserve the views of the water.
Above: The designer incorporated family heirlooms into the design, including this framed American flag from the owner’s father who flew this from his sailboat when he crossed the Atlantic 15 years ago.
Above: The owner’s bedroom was designed to have a treehouse-like feel, with its treetop views. The bed was positioned in the center of this space to create a floating feel.
Above: The lower level features a cozy bunk room for the kids, encompassing two bathrooms and four corner sleeping niches. At the center of this space are flax linen beanbag-esque chairs and a pair of daybeds. There is a sliding wall that is tucked out of the way to keep the space open but can be pulled across to delineate the space into two separate suites.
