A stunning update to a charming cottage-inspired house in Orange County

Mindy Gayer Design has undertaken a complete transformation of a cottage-inspired house that is located in Orange County, California over the course of about a year. The homeowners are newlyweds with a baby on the way, who purchased this as a starter home. The goal of the designer was to create a charming and inspired space that would accommodate their growing family, incorporating updated materials and finishes.

The design concept aimed to create a cozy cottage home that blended organic textures with traditional elements in a timeless manner. This approach resulted in a cohesive and inviting atmosphere throughout this single-level dwelling.

Inside, the designer utilized a combination of materials to achieve the desired aesthetic. Incorporating organic textures into the design added warmth and a sense of nature to the space. Traditional elements were also included, such as classic moldings, trim, and refined architectural details. The use of updated materials and finishes ensured a fresh and modern look.

Soft, neutral tones were used to create a serene and soothing atmosphere. These hues also allow for versatility in terms of decor and furniture selections, accommodating the changing needs and tastes of the growing family over time.

I’m am not usually a cottage fan but I think this is more sophisticated than a cottage house. Like the finishes very much. Is anyone able to tell me where you sourced the stoneware in the kitchen and quilt with ‘pom poms’? Thank you!

Please, can you explain the thinking behind putting the kitchen cabinetry slap on the countertop? Leaving the cook literally know space to work? Anybody?

I have to assume the cook is stuck doing all work on the island. Personally, it would frustrate the hell out of me. This configuration also makes it impossible for under cabinet lighting of which I’m a big fan.
