This centuries-old house was completely reimagined by Polsky Perlstein Architects alongside BK Interior Design, tucked away in a quiet corner of Ross, a small town in Marin County, California. A true collaboration, the project team had a vision of this dwelling that was anything but traditional.
They redefined the confined floor plan introducing large openings in the kitchen and living spaces to blur the boundaries between indoor and outdoor living. They were tasked to reimagine the home’s interior in a fun and whimsical way. The homeowner’s innate sense of style and wanderlust encouraged the team to infuse a bit of the English countryside in a playful manner.
This allowed them the flexibility to play with pattern and color, which they combined with more traditional moldings, doors, and casings. The result is an aesthetic where old meets new and rustic meets refined, all with a little sense of eccentricity and charm.

Created for a family with three teenagers, the goal was to update this dwelling to feel comfortable, lived in, and not too showy. The team was tasked with reimagining the home to reference classical design, a touch of country, and a pop of whimsy.
