A peek inside this amazing mountain refuge in the Colorado Rockies

mountain-home-exterior

This contemporary refuge in the mountains was designed as the personal family home of the co-founders of RKD Architects, located in the vibrant community of Edwards, Colorado. This house is a composition of simple shed roofs, expressed on the interior with raw, almost urban loft-like imagery and angular stone forms.

On yet another spectacular mountain site, the homeowners decided to build a home for themselves. The construction proceeded in phases, with the garage and guest wings completed first. The main living areas and the owner’s bedroom suite were finished 12 years later.

You had me at the iron beams and galvanized ceiling/roof. A masterpiece of originality and grace.

I would never be able to live in this house. It feels too heavy and cold with all of the stone and metal. Would have been interesting to see a better view of the kitchen but from the angle provided, an abomination.
