Vanguard Studio has designed this incredible contemporary home to meet the lifestyle needs of a busy family of five, located in Austin, Texas. This dwelling is nestled into a moderately sloped property that rises in elevation away from the street. A terracing approach was implemented on the site to meet the indoor and outdoor needs of the project.
The home’s main level and pool are cut into the property so the structure presents less volume to the street. The second-level terrace creates a flat backyard to use as a field for soccer and outdoor play. Boulders from the excavation are dry stacked beyond the field where the lot returns to a natural habitat with native grasses and beautiful mature Live Oaks.

The building forms, roof pitches, and materials were constrained by relatively traditional subdivision restrictions, the house leans modern.
The color palette is clean and contemporary, and modern details abound such as the smooth-cut stone entry, aluminum and steel windows and doors, and a narrow profile fascia.
The house moves more contemporary inside with full overlay white oak, black, and white painted cabinets, glass backsplashes, a simple beveled baseboard detail, and an abundance of beautiful modern light fixtures.
In the Kitchen, the function is elevated via two waterfall quartz islands (one dedicated for kids doing homework), a solid glass backsplash for easy cleaning, and high-end appliances integrating seamlessly with cabinet panels and smooth surfaces.
What We Love: This contemporary Texas home provides a light and airy atmosphere with clean details for a busy family lifestyle. We are loving the openness of the floor plan and how living spaces flow from one to the next. The use of wood accents and wood flooring helps to infuse warmth into this home. We are especially loving the home library, a cozy place to curl up and read a book or take an afternoon siesta.

The main bedroom features custom rift oak nightstands that were custom designed for this space (including Finery hardware, with elongated and rounded edge pulls designed specifically for easy reach and sleek elegance).
The spa-like owner’s bathroom features a custom floating vanity, double-sided mirror, flush-mounted Finery Hardware (a luxury hardware line by Laura Burton Interiors), dimensional marble tile, and a walk-in roman tub shower.
A gorgeous stone mosaic tile and integral sink add a special touch to this powder bathroom.
A favorite unique space is this home library which is situated just off the entry. Architectural interest is added to this space courtesy of a central skylight and uniquely configured built-in shelving, along with a special lounge chair for a daughter who loves to read.
