Stunning hacienda style weekend retreat in Mexico inspired by nature

hacienda-style-home-exterior

This fabulous hacienda-style weekend retreat was designed to make the most of its natural environment by Chain + Siman, located on the outskirts of Valle de Bravo, Mexico. A restful villa to enjoy the natural landscape, striking a balance between the manicured gardens and imposing stone structures.

The 5,598 square foot retreat is based on the concept of Mexican haciendas, where regionally sourced materials allow the dwelling to blend with nature. There are three main volumes, each contained by stone walls that act as interconnected partitions. Each structure has a tiled, gable roof that is supported by timber beams of varying heights to respond to specific needs.

The central structure houses the living and dining room, a double volume space that connects to the terrace and jacuzzi at the front and a central patio at the rear. The wings host the master bedroom with a study loft connected via a ladder, while the other wing encompasses the kitchen and other service areas.

It was important that this retreat be an independent home while also being able to accommodate overnight guests. An annex building is connected to the main house via a glass bridge that crosses the central courtyard. It offers plenty of privacy while still being connected to the overall program.

The interior design scheme was inspired by the local vegetation in the selection of finishes and lighting. Inside, the stone was left exposed and is complemented by elements of black ironwork, wood in varying shades for the loft, furnishings and dividing walls, and poured concrete for the kitchen and bathroom floors.

The dwelling reflects a warm, inviting, and comfortable environment that combines classic hacienda-style elements on the exterior with contemporary styling on the interior to achieve a balance between luxury, aesthetics, and functionality.

What We Love: This hacienda-style retreat offers a wonderful place to escape into the tranquility of nature. We are loving the design concept of having separate structures interconnected, where everyone can meet in the central, main living space to gather. Expansive walls of glass help to not only flood the interiors with natural light, but also blur the lines between indoors and out.

I love the black and cream patterned floors…are you saying that they are poured concrete? How does that work?
