Phinney Design Group is responsible for the design of this modernized arts and crafts camp-like home, nestled on the rocky shoreline of Lake George, New York. The contemporary, open floor plan is characterized by extensive use of careful level changes to create distinct living zones within the space.
Grey stained windows are reminiscent of natural bark and driftwood, adding an ethereal quality to the house — an updated example to the darker woodwork of historic arts and crafts interiors. Above: The driveway creates a courtyard with pervious pavers and adjoining rain gardens, both of which are part of an innovative stormwater drainage system.
Custom designed and locally fabricated white oak millwork can be found throughout the home, including three staircases, built-in bookcases, barrel-vaulted foyer, bar, and kitchen cabinets.
This camp-like home is outfitted with several fireplaces, which blends the intimate features of an inglenook with the rugged nature of an historic Adirondack Camp.
What We Love: This arts and crafts camp provides its owners with a wonderful vacation retreat to entertain family and friends. An open and spacious contemporary layout was designed to take advantage of the magnificent views of the lake and beyond to the Adirondack mountains. Beautiful design details throughout this home creates a warm and inviting atmosphere, ideal for a vacation escape.

The design of this home is heavily influenced by the landscape, which gently slopes from the road to the shores of Lake George. The agrarian property provides an abundance of inspiration for the structure, drawing from the grey tree bark, dark blue water, winter ice cover, long vistas down the lake and its mountainous surroundings.
