This cozy and compact cabin was designed by Johnston Architects, located on Orcas Island in the San Juan Islands of Washington State. Despite its compact size of just 1,200 square feet, this home lives large. The extension of the roof over the deck columns and beams define an intermediate space both inside and out.
The height of the veranda allows for southern light to pour in during winter months, while the depth of the veranda keeps the sun from becoming too intrusive during the summer.
This compact cabin is perched on a wooded and rocky bluff roughly 50-feet above the high water mark of the Salish Sea. The structure is nestled into the trees and rocks so as to include the view beyond without being obtrusive from nearby beaches and the water, allowing expansive vistas of nearby islands.
What We Love: This compact cabin offers a fabulous getaway for its owners to relax and unwind from city life. Expansive windows frame breathtaking views of the Washington coast, creating a feeling of tranquility. Minimal design and furnishings keeps this home low-maintenance, while focusing your attention to the outdoors. We could imagine this being a wonderful escape!
