Flavin Architects has designed this luminous modern home located in a wooded countryside setting in Lenox, a town in Berkshire County, Massachusetts. The architect designed this residence as a series of interconnected pavilions to link the house with nature while providing maximum daylight to each room.
The main focus of this dwelling is the largest pavilion, which encompasses the living/dining/kitchen. The guest pavilion is positioned on the southern side of the site, while the master bedroom and screen porch pavilions are to the west.
While the exterior perspective of the roof line appears flat, the roofs of each pavilion have a defined slope inward and to the north — appearing as a funnel shape. The advantage of this design enables rain water to channel via a scupper to cisterns located on the north side of the house. Steel beams, Douglas fir rafters and purlins are exposed in the living/dining/kitchen pavilion.
What We Love: This luminous modern home offers a fabulous indoor-outdoor connection with brilliant views of this home’s peaceful woodsy setting. Expansive outdoor living spaces encourages outdoor interaction while also providing plenty of space for both indoor and outdoor entertaining. Overall, a beautifully designed home with an inviting modern aesthetic.
