This contemporary mountain home was designed by architectural studio Carlton Edwards, located in the Balsam Mountain Preserve, a community in Jackson County, North Carolina. Balsam Mountain Preserve is a private, gated, mountain, golf and equestrian community in the western North Carolina Mountains — where the Blue Ridge and Smoky Mountains join together.
The site for this residence provides clear views to the West and North. The placement of an approach to the house was influenced by a ridge that runs through the middle of the lot. The homeowners requested large expanses of glass to maximize the views and to give them a constant reminder of their environment.
What We Love: We are loving the overall look of this mountain home, the color palette, windows, materials, landscaping, and spectacular views. As you step inside the front door, walls of glass allow you to see right out to the back of the home. Flow from indoors to out is felt throughout thanks to the heavy use of glazing. We are also loving the change of roofline, adding visual interest to the exterior facade.
Tell Us: If this were your home, are there any details in the design that you would change? Please share your thoughts in the Comments, we love reading your feedback!
Note: Have a look at a couple of other incredible home tours that we have featured here on One Kindesign from the portfolio of the architects of this project, Carlton Edwards: Modern lake house opens towards the Blue Ridge Mountains and Striking modern-rustic home in North Carolina surrounded by forest.
Above: The sunroom features a dual-sided fireplace. A cozy space to enjoy gathering with family and friends while soaking in the magnificent views over the treetops and beyond to the rugged mountains.
