This ski-in, ski-out mountain home was designed by Resort Concepts in collaboration with Markalunas Architecture Group, located in Edwards, Colorado. Offering a fresh take on mountain style, the design of this home rethinks conventional design and steers away from the traditional darker palette. The homeowners requested a light-filled, open plan house with walls of glass that maximized views of the meandering valley. The design needed to incorporate living spaces for entertaining and accommodations for overnight guests of the homeowners children and grandchildren.

Above: A custom fabricated steel-and-glass window-and-door system within a stone barrel vault makes for a commanding opening statement to this exquisite mountain home. To enhance the entryway into the home, the landscape designers created a bridge using Colorado buff flagstone. The bridge travels across a dry stream bed, used as an organizing element for the entry landscape.

Katy Allen Interior Design was responsible for the interior design scheme of this beautiful mountain home. The designer selected furnishings and accessories with a natural color palette that references the evergreens and aspens that are nestled on the property. Grounding the living spaces, the designer opted for area rugs in quite tones of cream, sage and taupe.
The great room features a soaring 21-foot high ceiling. Varying heights of furnishings helps to keep the scale in proportion, along with a layering of artwork and light fixtures to keep the eye moving. An iron chandelier suspended from the antique ceiling beams adds a feel of intimacy to the space.
Throughout the interiors, expansive walls of windows features wood frames that have been stained black to match the iron used on both the entryway doors and the wine cellar. A dry stacked gray-green Colorado moss rock was used on both the interior and exterior.
Above: The homeowner’s requested a large hearth room that opens to the kitchen for a harmonious flow when entertaining guests.
Above: The flooring is French white-oak hardwood floors, which have been waxed to create an old-world aesthetic.
Above: Coziness and charm were added into the interiors by mixing found items with cleaner pieces. This can be seen in this bedroom sitting area, where an industrial tabletop is paired with a carved wood base and complimented by wing back chairs.
Above: Cozy pairings continue in the master bedroom, where an iron frame bed gets a softer touch with the wood carved bench. Even though there are masculine touches in this bedroom, the softness of the window fabric treatments and the floral carving in the bench infuses warmth.
