This ski lodge style mountain retreat is located in Deer Valley, Utah, designed by the talented interiors studio Massucco Warner Miller Interior Design. This a second home for a family of three who wanted a more modern color palette for their rustic mountain home. Upon entryway into the 5,800 square foot, six bedroom, six bathroom retreat, you will notice that there is no formal place to take off ski gear. As a design solution, the designers equipped the front entry with closets and a small bench for taking off winter boots and shoes.
The living room is bright and airy, featuring soaring ceilings, a beautiful stacked stone fireplace, neutral furnishings and an expansive picture window that frames the view of the heavily wooded, mountainous landscape. A brightly hued Turkish kilim area rug anchors the space, making it feel warm and cozy. The flooring is comprised of white oak wood that has undergone a bleaching process with several coats of stain to achieve its beautiful aesthetic.

Above: The dining room is perfect for hosting dinner parties, featuring a 19th-century farm table. With longer tables, the designer prefers to use different seating styles on either side. You will notice on one side there are French side chairs, while a custom leather bench is on the opposite side.

Designer Tips:
- When scheming a room, select the fabrics and furniture you love before choosing paint colors. You can always find paint that works with your favorite fabric.
- Buy the best-quality upholstery you can afford. A well-made sofa will last for years and can be recovered over and over again if you desire a change.
- Keep a small tape measure and list of your ideal artwork sizes with you. You never know when you’ll spot the perfect piece while traveling or out and about.
- Before purchasing furniture, place blue painter’s tape on the floor to visualize its actual size. A 90″ sofa looks good in the store but might overwhelm your living room.
- Size an area rug based on room dimensions, not just a furniture grouping. A larger area rug helps a space feel bigger and makes better use of the room. A good rule of thumb is to allow 6″-12″ of flooring to show between the wall and the rug edge.
