This modern rustic mountain retreat was designed by Antonio Martins Interior Design for a bachelor who wished for a playful and hip ski chalet, located in Tahoe, California. The open concept great room features a stunning focal point, a floor-to-ceiling fireplace comprised of cold-rolled steel. A bright yellow Pixel Deer sculpture designed by artist Jihoon Choi creates a nice showpiece affixed to the front facade of the fireplace.
Tightly stacked wood next the the fireplace is displayed from floor-to-ceiling, creating a nice design feature that conceals the entertainment center. The comfortable seating area has been casually decorated with a large leather sectional paired with 1960s swivel chairs by designer Thonet that the homeowner had picked up in Miami. Adding an air of whimsy to the space, artwork displayed around the room consists of photography and a mixed-media collage on a wood door.
The dining area is defined by a sizable recycled wood table encircled by armchairs that have been designed by Cassina Cab, seating up to 16 guests. Moving on to the powder room, exquisite custom features includes a live-edge floating shelf and custom wallpaper by Crezana. A long hallway that leads to the bedroom quarters is decorated by 19th century albumen photographic prints of the Tahoe area.
There are five bedrooms in the home, each having their own unique character: “the burlap bedroom; the log bedroom; the gray bedroom; the antler bedroom; and the master, with a circular metal hanging chair overlooking the unobstructed view of the mountains,” states the desginers. In the master bathroom, vintage signage in neon spells the word “hotel”, injecting nostalgia into the space.
