As we head into summer, its time to think about renovating our backyards for family fun and entertainment. For some of us that might be adding some outdoor furnishings and decor, a fire feature or even a built-in grill, while others are fulfilling their wishes of a sparkling swimming pool. This outdoor oasis fulfills one family’s checklist for the backyard of their dreams. Read on for a description of this project that was sent to us by the designer, M.E. Contracting.
“M.E. Contracting was hired in 2017 to transform the backyard of this Toronto house. The home owners wanted to create an outdoor oasis for their young children as well as an area to live in and entertain. M.E. Contracting’s in-house landscaping architect designed the backyard landscaping then once approved we started the processes of construction.”
“The first challenge we had was the size of the backyard and its location (surrounded by houses) so first we excavated the yard and dug the cavity to insert the 50-foot fiberglass pool with 8-foot depth on one side and a kids enclosure on the other. (We had to use a very large crane to lift the fiberglass pool over the house and drop it into the cavity). Once we had the pool installed we installed water features / fountains and an automated retractable cover.”
“The next step was creating the outdoor kitchen area with the pergola and remote control retractable awning made by ShadeFX. The pergola is made out of cedar and the outdoor kitchen was surfaced with stone and marble countertop using wolf BBQ and fridge. Next step was the customized stone firepit with a direct hookup to a propane source. Finally, we added the stone interlocking surface throughout the backyard with a small elevated cedar deck to the side of the pool. Some of the furniture is by Vondom (the plastic chairs) and some is by ARD outdoor furniture.”

This backyard design is very family-friendly yet aesthetically pleasing. The wall helps to define the outdoor space, making it feel more inviting and cozy. Relaxing furnishings set around the pool invites family and friends to gather together and enjoy fresh air and beautiful sunsets. Overall a well designed backyard full of fantastic features!
