San Francisco-based interior designer Ken Fulk was tasked with decorating this stunning guest retreat for the holidays, located in the ultra-luxe community of Yellowstone Club, Montana. The Yellowstone Club is a 13,600 acre private residential area featuring the Rocky Mountains as its backdrop. The main residence is called ‘Sky High’, set on top of a mountain where the family frequently visits for ski vacations.

Nestled downslope is their guest retreat, which is called ‘Halfway House’. Over the holidays, guests come for two weeks. The designer has become friends with his clients, designing twelve houses for them over the course of fifteen years. He is also a guest for the holidays and helps to prepare a list of activities for the two weeks. This includes Taco Tuesdays, dance parties (with a DJ and a band) and movie nights.

The guest retreat has a boutique hotel feel, chalk full of holiday festivity. When the designer works on a project, he has a vision of a movie that he has created in his head. The guest lodge features a white Christmas theme, with a hint of rock and roll. Each of the guest bedroom suites are themed after famous partyers, such as Elvis, Janis Joplin and even Steve McQueen.

These names can also be seen in the director’s chairs surrounding the dining table (image above). To compliment this theme, each bedroom features a playful “survival kit”, which includes remedies in case of a hangover. The interiors are spread out over three levels, where the main purpose is to welcome guests in and to feel a sense of coziness.

What We Love: Besides being an absolutely stunning guest retreat that we would love to visit for the holidays? This home was beautifully decorated by the designer, both inside and out. The home feels warm and welcoming and the living room is especially inviting with the soaring ceilings and roaring wood-burning fireplace. With ski hills just outside your door, this is the ultimate retreat for avid skiers.

There are a total of eight built-in bunk beds, which was made for children, however adults have been known to use them as well. Each bunk offers a miner’s-cap lamp and a stash of candy to enjoy while curling up with a good book.

The wallcovering is the Phillip Jeffries ‘Wild Woods’ collection, with a wood grain aesthetic. It is embossed atop a natural bark paper with hits of metallic to exude the appearance of shimmering bark.

I have loved this home decorated for Christmas for a long time. It looks warm, inviting and fun. The lucky people who get to live in it must feel so blessed! The setting for the home is glorious too.
