This modern desert home is nestled in a hillside location with dramatic vistas in every direction, designed by The Construction Zone, located in Paradise Valley, Arizona. The dwelling was designed for a couple and their teenage son, whose requirement was to have a custom build design that has a “wow” factor. The homeowners imagined a glass box that would hang off the land. The result is a concrete, glass and steel structure that soaks in the surrounding views of mountains and the valley below. The mountainside was excavated to have the home immersed into its rocky site. The architects had almost thirty rock pins installed to hold back the excavation.
Exposed concrete walls combined with steel beams creates an industrial backdrop to more sleek elements such as terrazzo flooring and white kitchen cabinetry. Expansive walls of floor-to-ceiling glass can be found in the living room, maximizing the views. A guesthouse above the garage does just the opposite, with high and narrow windows, they frame the mountains, yet cut out views of nearby neighbors. The architect did clever tricks like this throughout, thereby giving the feeling of complete seclusion.
From below, the structure seems to float above its concrete foundation. Inside, sleek, clean-lined interiors compliments the contemporary building materials of concrete, glass and steel.
The living room features a marble fireplace with horizontal veining helps to reinforce the clean, crisp architectural lines of the dwelling. The sleek fireplace serves as the focal point to the space.
What We Love: This modern desert home features an eye-catching visual display of materials, finishes, furnishings, art and views. The structure was carefully sited to preserve and take advantage of its native desert landscape. Nestled into the mountainside, its breathtaking surroundings and vistas are very idyllic. A dream home in the desert.
