A family of six from Connecticut purchased a summer retreat to cherish, a 5,000 square foot shingle-style home in Nantucket, re-designed byย Brooks and Falotico Associates. The architects collaborated with interior designer Lynn Morgan to create the perfect aesthetic that both husband and wife could agree on. The property also includes several porches for summer entertaining, a 1,000 square foot guest house and a beautiful pond, the focal point to the home’s design. The design team had the opportunity to come into the project working with a blank canvas, so they opted onย an historically motivated look with a modern twist. Careful attention to detail was placed throughout the interiors, including all the millwork, built-ins, molding, flooring, windows and window seats. This includes the clever concealment of a flat-screen television in the bar, which comes down from the ceiling above the glassware storage area. The children’s bathrooms had playful materials incorporated into the design scheme, including molded-resin countertopsโturquoise for the boys rooms and hot pink for the girls. A variety of materials and products were used in the design of the home, creating a clean, fresh aesthetic.
There are no formal spaces in this shingle-style home, the children and the dog can go anywhere they please, and it makes this home more simple to maintain. The clean, modern aesthetic of this home has been really easy for the family’s lifestyle, it is simple and fresh with no fuss. The large pond has been integral to the design, no only can the children play in it and go exploring by raft, but it really brings the outdoor in. The finished result is a family friendly home that is accommodating for entertaining with a beach style aesthetic that is comfortable and inviting.
