This sprawling modern home showcasing jaw-dropping views was designed by McClean Design, located on an exclusive street in West Hollywood, a city in western Los Angeles County, California. Consisting of 9,500 square feet, the residence is nestled on a corner site of a cul-de-sac, adding to the privacy of the location. The program called for a spacious home design that maximize the views out towards the city below. To successfully create this, the architects designed a basement level to help elevate the single level home. The basement level necessitated a design plan to increase natural light, additionally, spaces were created to make this space habitable. The architects devised a solution to help illuminate the basement by creating a linear light well that separates the street from the house. Through an entry gate between two large stone walls, you come will come up on this lavish home that will take your breath away. The entrance reveals majestic views straight through the extensive glass walls in the living room, which is accessed by a bridge over the basement light well and a water feature. The bridge was created to allow for anticipation of what is to come and to allow for some degree of separation of  the home from the street.

As you can see from the image above, the light well opens up completely, revealing an entertainment area as well as a home office. Light gets reflected off a tiered white marble waterfall. The waterfall feature takes up most of the volume of the light well, with the exception of a floating platform that connects to the living spaces above. The platform is ideal for using as a tranquil reading spot or just for admiring the living green walls that are at opposing ends of the volume. The basement was enhanced further with the design of a sky lit stairwell. Walls of glass disappear to help blur the boundaries between indoors and out. The interiors of this property was designed in collaboration with the luxury Italian furnishings company Minotti. A deep, rich color palette was infused into the interiors, creating a series of inviting living spaces that are perfect family and entertaining.

What We Love: Besides the spectacular modern spaces throughout, there are so many things to admire about this property, such as the extensive walls of glass that reveals jaw-dropping views. The master bedroom is sensational, the way it opens almost entirely to the elements and spills out onto a swimming pool terrace… and those views, amazing!
