This stylish weekend getaway for a young family showcases transitional interiors by designer Thom Filicia, located in Greenwich, a town in Fairfield County, Connecticut. The family is based on the Upper East Side in New York and wanted their retreat to be somewhere where they did not have to stress about weekend holiday traffic. Greenwichย was the perfect location, a beautiful countryside suburb for city commuters. Their dream retreat was a neo-Georgian Colonial home that was built in the 1980s, nestled on a sprawling 12 acres property. With lots of space for their children to play and to entertain guests both inside and outside; the spacious 10,000 square foot home boasts seven bedroom and nine bathrooms. The only downside to the home is that it felt very dated and this is where they turned to designer Thom Filicia for help. He turned this charming getaway into a warm but modern aesthetic, with a casual elegance and a beautiful New England vibe. The design of the home followed suit with the couple’s tastes, luxurious yet understated materials, a preference that is influenced through their business as part owners of tailored clothing line Douglas Hayward in London. The rooms needed to be comfortable enough for the family to relax and spend time by the fireplace reading a book, but also needed to represent the same styling as Douglas Hayward, “sumptuous textiles, perfectly executed details, not too many frills.” The expansive home also includes a full spa with a sauna and a yoga room.
The homeowners selected a color palette that was reflective of New England style, shades of blues and toned-down reds and rusts. With neutral fabrics and tactile wall treatments such as grass cloth, these beautiful hues really popped. The end result are interiors that are elegant yet fresh, being a young couple, the home reflects their character. The spaces are set perfectly for entertaining, especially the dining area, nicely laid out for dinner parties with friends. It is an unfussy home that is very on trend, American with an edge.
Designer Thom Filicia is known for his relaxed take on American style, which is reflected in this stunning home and others that he has created.
