This rustic mountain lodge was designed by Michael Rex Architects, located at the end of a private drive atop Mount Tamalpais, in Mill Valley, California. The residence and guest house was designed for a young family, with its strategic location capturing dramatic views of the San Francisco Bay and beyond.
The overall design of this home reflects the owners’ style and desire for a relaxing mountain retreat. We welcome you to have a look inside this stunning mountain home and let us know what you think at the end of the tour. Do you find that this home fits in with its rugged surroundings?
What We Love: This rustic mountain lodge was designed with great attention to detail and scale, built for a family that required interior spaces for easy entertainment with much warmth and comfort, with rooms designed to convey their personalities, and a home that exudes a feeling of welcome for many years to come.
The beautiful rustic interiors showcased throughout this home was carried out by the creative talent of ANAMAR interiors | collection. The kitchen features wood flooring and wood ceiling beams, adding to the rusticity of the space. White cabinets contrasts nicely with the blue cabinets on the center island and on either side of the range. A beautiful wood countertop on the island provides a great workspace for a chef, while a pendant light from above provides great task lighting.
Large expanses of windows bring the surrounding views of nature into the home, while creating an expanded living environment from the interiors to the exteriors. An open living room and dining room is very convenient for entertainment, while a cozy stone clad fireplace adds to the ambiance of the space.
Above: The Wooden Horses to the right of the fireplace were picked up by the homeowners on a trip to Dalarna, Sweden. The size of the horses shown are approximately 18” tall. They can be found at The Swedish Wooden Horse Company.
The window seat is approximately 78″ wide and about 36″ deep. A window seat provides the perfect spot for escapism and to read a book! We love the way the window seat frames the view of the mountains, simply breathtaking… we could imagine taking a peaceful nap in this spot.
