Parkwood Road Residence was designed by architecture studio Charles Cudd De Novo with interior selections and furnishings by Martha O’Hara Interiors in Edina, Minnesota. The home was designed for a corporate power-couple accustomed to hosting events for hundreds as well as intimate affairs for a few. The goals for this home-build were straightforward, create a formal, traditional home with a contemporary aesthetic that conveys sophistication and taste and a storage system that keeps clutter at bay and to create a suitable multi-room living space within the main floor that includes a kitchen, family room and dining area.
The floor plan had to have an easy flow during large events and offer intimate spaces for small dinners. The homeowner’s daily living needs were also addressed by creating a dedicated family area off of the kitchen, a hotel-like retreat for the homeowners and a warm color palette that eschews the use of golden or brown neutrals. Because this husband and wife maintained their home diligently and prized tasteful luxury, they wanted their daily living area to include features that might not seem practical for most people but would suit them perfectly. The designers found themselves challenged to rethink the very idea of practicality, while also looking for creative storage solutions in an open floor plan, where clutter was unwelcome.
