This ultra stylish modern farmhouse has been designed by SDG Architecture in collaboration with Modern Organic Interiors, located in Menlo Park, California. The homeowners are a couple with two school-age children who enjoy nature and wished to grow their own food on the property. The first thing you will notice about this beautiful home is its white painted facade with a contrasting Galvalume roof, designed to look like zinc. A bright yellow door highlights the entryway and welcomes visitors inside its gorgeously designed interiors. Inside the 6,052 square feet (562 square meters)home you will find four bedrooms, six-and-a-half bathrooms and a fully finished basement. The interior walls are bathed in Benjamin Moore’s White Dove, which helps keep the space feeling bright and airy. The furnishings are an eclectic mix of contemporary, mid-century and craftsy pieces, which prevents the interiors from feeling too restrictive. The furnishings were kept in a neutral color palette, but each space has a small pop of color for visual interest. Throughout most of the interiors you will find beautiful white oak flooring, that reflects a matte surface from being finished with a lightly pigmented oil. You will find organic touches dispersed throughout, infusing the home with an earthy aesthetic.
The homeowners wanted to have a more visually clean and contemporary look running through their home, so floor to ceiling board and batten paneling was applied. This cozy family room features a comfortable sectional perfect for family gatherings. The coffee table is actually a children’s play set with stools tucked underneath. The designer dressed up the table with a vinyl wall covering to be more visually pleasing and add a pop of color to the space.
The television is cleverly designed to be flat against the wall with all wires concealed behind.
The homeowners love to cook and entertain, so a fully equipped kitchen was a must on their wish list. Honed Calacatta Oro marble covers the kitchen island countertops as well as the outer perimeter counters. Tolix stools lends an industrial air to the space, and the middle slots makes it easier to pull them out.
This playful bathroom off the pool features white subway tiles running horizontally up the wall to meet the Schmacher wallpaper, doodles by Saul Steinberg. The farmhouse style sink is by Kohler, Brockway wash sink. The adorable basket in the corner can be found at Steele Canvas Basket Corp.
The basement rec room/media area encompasses a full bar as well as a wine cellar, which you can see on the far right.
The walls in this children’s bathroom were painted with chalkboard paint. The wainscoting is painted white wood running in a horizontal pattern with a tongue and groove joint. Farmhouse style light fixtures complete the look.
The back door leads right off the kitchen. The base of the home is clad in horizontal lap siding, whereas the second level is board and batten. The mix adds visual appeal and creates a more modest scale, reflecting traditional farmhouse architecture.
