Sullivan + Associates Architects, in partnership with Rentschler & Company Interiors, has beautifully renovated this family retreat surrounded by woodlands in Edgartown, a town on Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts. This spectacular property features compact, independent living spaces connected by a breezeway and an expansive patio. The pair of pagoda-like structures was transformed into functional and stylish living spaces.
Outdoor living spaces were also reconfigured to meet the needs of this family of four. The architects also created a 600-square-foot addition, bringing the total living space to 2,200 square feet. For the main house, two dormer windows help to bring natural light into the living room. This also helped make the second level feel more spacious.
A screened-in porch was added downstairs to extend the living and dining areas. The owner’s bathroom underwent a modern update, featuring the addition of an outdoor shower. Outside, a built-in propane fire pit serves as a gathering spot for the family, situated between the living spaces.
What We Love: This fabulous woodland retreat boasts bright and airy living spaces, as well as cozy outdoor areas, all designed for family enjoyment. The concept of this home is ideal for a vacation retreat, featuring a main house and a guest house connected by a covered walkway. This helps keep the spaces separate and private, while still maintaining close connections for social enjoyment.
