A 1950s midcentury modern home in Texas gets a stylish makeover

Austin Design Group, in partnership with Jennifer Garner Interiors, has completely transformed this midcentury modern home situated in Austin, Texas. Built in the 1950s, this home offered a fantastic location and view, yet needed a major update. The last time this home had been renovated was in the 1990s, so the project team opted to gut the house down to the studs. After the transformation, this home boasts an open flowing plan with fresh modern finishes.

To bring this home up to date, the designers employed natural stone, warm wood floors, and neutral tones throughout the interiors. Furniture selections mix clean modern, organic forms with unique antiques for a curated feel that expresses the homeowner’s personality. Custom rugs, window treatments, and commissioned art help make this magnificent home feel one-of-a-kind.

Above: In the kitchen of this midcentury home, the backsplash tile is a cement tile by a company called Arto Brick. The size is 2″x8″, color Early Gray. The pattern is a random broken joint. Grout color is from Custom Building Products #386 Oyster Gray. The countertop is a natural quartzite called Dolce Vida. The material is durable like granite, but veined like a marble. Cabinets are painted in Sherwin-Williams SW7035 Aesthetic White, Semi-Gloss. Island dimensions: 54″ x 90″.
