39 Amazing Ideas For Growing A Vegetable Garden In Your Backyard

amazing vegetable garden ideas

After visiting a farm-to-table Airbnb in Washington, we got inspired to put together this article of fabulous ideas for growing a vegetable garden in your backyard. The wonderful thing about vegetable and herb gardens is that they can be grown anywhere. You can put them in containers on your front porch, patio, or balcony, or plant them in your backyard.

They can be in raised beds, wooden/plastic barrels, galvanized troughs, or a fenced-in garden to keep away the bunnies and deer. Planting seeds in the rich soil is exciting, and you can watch your vegetables grow. They taste fresh and delicious compared to buying them in the grocery store, not to mention the money you save to feed your family by having a kitchen garden.

You can plant vegetables in the spring and in the fall. Tomatoes, peppers, corn, and zucchini are just some of the delicious seeds to plant for the spring. Ideal crops to grow in the fall include spinach, lettuce, Swiss chard, carrots, radishes, kale, parsnips, turnips, leeks, fennel, Chinese cabbage, and cauliflower.

If you live in a warmer winter climate, the best vegetables, such as Swiss chard, may continue to produce into the winter months. Have a look below at our collection of backyard vegetable garden ideas to help you plan your own vegetable/herb garden and create one that is attractive and edible.

While growing a green oasis in your backyard, there are a few other benefits to growing your own vegetable garden. One of the biggest benefits is the money you will save by growing your own food. Buying organic, farm-fresh veggies can ultimately get a little pricey, but it is worth it. Save money by growing your own organic, pesticide-free vegetables without the premium price tag.

A few more benefits include food security and the ability to harvest fresh produce at peak ripeness. This is when it will have the most flavor and nutrient content. Food security is very important, especially when vegetables are in high demand. Knowing you will have fresh vegetables on the table helps alleviate that worry.

Have fun creating your own garden! If you have a small garden space, that is okay! There are many alternatives you can use. For example, you can incorporate window boxes and tomato cages into your vegetable garden plan or create a keyhole garden. You can also grow edible garden flowers to add some fun color to your small garden.
