Truong Montgomery Architect, in collaboration with Jeffrey Burden Design, has created this spectacular mountainside house with sweeping views over the Great Smoky Mountains in Walland, Tennessee. Nestled into the side of a 45-degree slope, this dream house faced many challenges. Inspired by the historic Frank Lloyd Wright-designed landmark Fallingwater in Pennsylvania.
This modern three-story home features extensive custom glass windows and doors that allow homeowners to take in the scenic mountain views of East Tennessee. The impressive 12,000-square-foot residence consists of five buildings, each inspired by traditional Appalachian musical instruments. As part of the sustainable design, locally sourced flagstone, solar panels, and water reclamation systems were utilized.
What We Love: From the sleek black metal roof to the warm wood accents and stone fireplace in the living room, every detail is perfectly crafted in this gorgeous Smoky Mountains house. This home is an architectural masterpiece, one of our most favorite homes we have featured to date. The planning that went into every element in the design, the mix of materials, and the impressive structural engineering, we are truly blown away! This home’s location is equally incredible, as it is one of the most beautiful mountain ranges in the USA.
